Problem Statement.

After conducting, we learned that students on campus are unhappy with the options that are being served on campus. They find them to be too “repetitive” or “unhealthy.” I learned that students do care about their nutrition but find no time in their day to plan for their diet or in too much of a hurry and choose an unhealthy option on campus. Students want to know what they are eating and what options being served on campus are actually good for you.

Solution.

While deciding on a solution to solve our problem I wanted to focus on several things. Provide students with quick information about the food they are eating at campus while providing them with the best nutritional options. Integrate meal plan blocks with app so students can track their meals. Provide a scanner to easily see what you’re eating to let you decide if the calories and nutritional facts are good for you. So the app “Monte’s Eats” will prove students with all the food options currently on campus so they can finally see what they are exactly and what healthy options are being offered. The apps functions include:

  • Display food options on campus

  • Inform students of healthy choices

  • Scan menu items to easily access nutritional facts

  • Nutritional calculator to count calories and keep track of what you are actually eating

New User Registration

This is a critical part of our users registration process, we will ask the user a series of questions in order to get an accurate Body Mass Index score so we can give them an idea of how many calories they should be eating on a daily basis.

Food Scanner

Once the user has registered it will take them to a homepage where they can easily see what is currently being served on campus. First time users will also be given a series of tips on how to use the app. The food scanner is an easy accessible location on the app and the user will just need to take a picture of their food. Then will be provided with details on the food they have scanned.

Profile & Calorie Tracker

Our users will be given a personalized profile to track recent meals they either scanned or added after eating their meal. In this profile they will be given the meals they have used on campus and the meals they have left with their current meal plan. They will also be given their total calories for the day. Finally users can see their calories for the day for specific meals , what their goal is for the day, and how consistent they have been with reaching their goal for the month.
